Global Folk Club

Global Folk Club is a monthly live music event featuring folk music from around the world in an intimate listening environment. Andrea created the framework for Global Folk Club based upon the folk clubs she grew up with in Northern England. Built on the idea of community, great folk music and a chance to sing together, this event has become a popular staple in the Portland music scene.

Andrea’s idea was to broaden the scope of the UK clubs to include folk music from around the world. The monthly showcase features French, Russian, Japanese, Czechoslovakian, Australian, Tibetan, Flamenco, Klezmer, Americana, Celtic, Medieval and more.

Andrea emcees the evening which features two distinct folk acts and then culminates with an English Pub Singalong filled with sea chanteys and traditional folk favourites.

Andrea explains “In the folk clubs at home people didn’t ask who was playing. They just showed up because they knew it would be a good night!”

Here is a quote from a Global Folk Club regular

“Global Folk Club is a wonderful array of musics from the far corners of the world, rounded out by all of us singing great songs together.  It is a unique venue, and I look forward to seeing you there as each month winds to an end”
